Secret Avengers Unmasked
April 19th, 2010 by Samodean

A while back, I wrote a post speculating on the lineup for the upcoming Secret Avengers comic.

Marvel unveiled the lineup this weekend. How did I do?

Beast: I discounted him due to some anatomy issues. While Beast HAS traditionally had 5 fingers, recent interpretations of the character have had a fluctuating number of digits. Also, this reveal made it clear Marvel was leaving some important details out of the teaser images. I like him for the team, though. Beast is a great character, especially with some room to interact with non-X-Men characters.

Moon Knight: He was my #1 choice for this one. Moon Knight has never been a great team player, but he fits the theme of the book well. This should definitely make for good reading.

Valkyrie: I’m still trying to figure this one out. As I said Earlier, she hasn’t really had a role in the Marvel U in many years. We’ll just have to see how she works out.

Nova: Another one that makes me scratch my head. I thought Nova would be a player in Marvel’s be outer space event, Thanos Imperative, but I guess I was wrong. Nova and Valkyrie just seem like odd fits for an espionage-themed book, I wonder what Brubaker has in mind here.

War Machine: I love Rhodey and can’t wait to see how he works with characters like Moon Knight and…

Steve Rogers: “Steve Rogers becomes the new Nick Fury of the Marvel Universe.” Alright, I’m on board with that. Not so sure about that new costume, though.

Additionally, Marvel has revealed three additional characters:

Sharon Carter: Steve Rogers’ girlfriend and a world-class spy in her own right.
Black Widow: A perfect fit, and of course she’d be in a major title with her making an appearance in next month’s Iron Man 2.
Irredeemable Ant-Man: A character that’s been treading a bit on the “Villain” side of things lately, I love the Eric O’Grady version of the character. Whether with The Initiative or the Dark Reign version of the Thunderbolts, the latest Ant-Man is a character that has been very fun to read.

So… three out of six. Officially half-ass. Still, it was fun to speculate.
